Vāstu Design

What is Vāstu?

Vāstu Shastra is an ancient Indian system of spatial design that considers the relationship between people, architecture, nature, light, orientation, and energy flow. Rooted in thousands of years of observation and tradition, Vāstu aims to create spaces that feel balanced, supportive, and deeply connected to the rhythms of the natural world.

Rather than imposing rigid rules, we approach Vāstu as a framework for creating homes that feel calm, grounded, and aligned with the way you want to live.

VĀSTU ĀLAYA

Vāstu Mini Home Review

Ālaya — आलय

Pronunciation: AA-la-ya

Ālaya is a Sanskrit word meaning abode, dwelling or sanctuary — a place in which one resides, rests and belongs. In Vāstu, the home is understood as more than a physical structure; it is a living space with its own relationship to direction, elements, movement and the life it holds. Ālaya invites us to look at the dwelling we already inhabit through this lens, finding simple and considered shifts that can bring greater harmony and alignment to the home.

VĀSTU VIKĀSA: Vāstu Home Design Review

VĀSTU VIKĀSA

Vāstu Home Design Review

विकास — Vikāsa

Pronunciation: vi-KAA-sa

Vikāsa is a Sanskrit word meaning development, growth, expansion and unfolding — the gradual revealing of something’s greater potential. Through Vāstu, we look beyond the existing arrangement of a home to consider how its spaces, functions, directions and relationships might evolve. Vikāsa speaks to the possibility held within what already exists — allowing an existing home to unfold into something more aligned, harmonious and responsive to the people who live within it.

Explore what is possible within your existing home.

A deeper Vāstu review for an existing home where you are considering renovation, reconfiguration or more substantial changes to the layout.

Vikāsa takes place over two private sessions, allowing time to first understand your home and the principles of Vāstu, before developing considered recommendations for how the existing layout could be altered.

Session 1 — Introduction & Home Review

90 minutes | Online

We begin with an introduction to Vāstu and its key principles before taking a virtual tour of your home together.

We’ll explore the existing arrangement, how you use the spaces and where there may be opportunities for greater Vāstu alignment.

Following this session, I’ll take time to develop recommendations for potential alterations and additions to the existing layout.

Between Sessions

Using the existing plans you provide, I’ll develop an initial Vāstu-informed concept plan, overlaying proposed changes onto your existing floor plan.

This may explore opportunities such as:

  • Reorienting or relocating the main entrance

  • Reconfiguring rooms

  • Adjusting room functions

  • Improving directional zoning

  • Relocating doors and openings

  • Reconsidering kitchen, bedroom and living spaces

  • Exploring additions or extensions

  • Integrating practical Vāstu remedies

Session 2 — Vāstu Integration

60 minutes | Online

We’ll come together to review the proposed concept and discuss the Vāstu considerations behind the recommendations.

This is an opportunity to ask questions, explore alternatives and understand how the proposed changes may better align the home with Vāstu principles.

What's included:

  • 90-minute initial Zoom consultation

  • Introduction to the foundations of Vāstu

  • Guided virtual tour of your home

  • Review of your existing layout

  • Personalised Vāstu analysis and recommendations

  • Development of an initial Vāstu-informed concept

  • Concept plan overlaid onto your existing floor plan

  • 60-minute follow-up Zoom session

  • Discussion and explanation of the proposed changes

  • Written recommendations and next steps

Plans required: You will need to provide an existing floor plan. This can be a simple real estate plan, plans from a previous designer, or existing architectural/building plans.

Best for: Existing homes where you are considering renovation, reconfiguration or more substantial spatial changes.

Once your booking is received, we’ll be in touch to arrange your first session and confirm the plans and information we need from you.

Please note: Vikāsa is an initial conceptual Vāstu review and does not include detailed architectural, building approval or construction documentation. These services can be explored separately should you wish to progress the concept further.

VĀSTU UDAYA: Vāstu New Home Concept
$1,689.00

VĀSTU UDAYA

Vāstu New Home Concept

उदय — Udaya

Pronunciation: u-da-ya

Udaya is a Sanskrit word meaning rising, emergence and coming forth — like the rising of the sun and the dawning of a new day. In Vāstu, the beginning of a home offers an opportunity to consider its relationship with the land, orientation, elements and the principles that inform the built environment. Udaya speaks to this beginning — bringing a new home into being with intention, allowing Vāstu to be woven into its foundations from the very beginning.

Begin with Vāstu from the very beginning.

A conceptual Vāstu design process for those planning a new home and wanting Vāstu to inform the design from the outset.

Rather than adapting an existing dwelling, Udaya allows us to begin with the land itself — considering its orientation, characteristics and relationship to the proposed home before developing an initial dwelling concept.

Session 1 — Introduction & Site Review

90 minutes | Online

We begin with an introduction to Vāstu and its key principles before taking a virtual tour of your land together.

We’ll explore the site, its orientation and characteristics, as well as your intentions for the home and the way you want to live within it.

Following this session, I’ll develop an initial Vāstu-informed concept for a proposed dwelling.

Concept Development

Using the information from our session, I’ll develop a conceptual floor plan for a proposed new dwelling, considering Vāstu alongside the site, orientation, spatial relationships and your initial design intentions.

The concept may explore:

  • Building placement on the site

  • Directional zoning

  • Main entrance location and orientation

  • Room placement and relationships

  • Kitchen, bedroom and living zones

  • Internal circulation

  • Openings and orientation

  • Elemental relationships

  • Passive and climate-responsive opportunities

  • The relationship between the home, site and the way you wish to live

Session 2 — Vāstu & Concept Review

90 minutes | Online

We’ll meet again to review the proposed concept together.

We’ll discuss the Vāstu principles informing the design, explore the relationship between the spaces and directions, and consider any questions or refinements before discussing potential next steps.

What's included:

  • 90-minute initial Zoom consultation

  • Introduction to the foundations of Vāstu

  • Guided virtual tour of your land

  • Initial site and Vāstu review

  • Personalised design considerations

  • Development of an initial conceptual floor plan for a proposed dwelling

  • 90-minute follow-up Zoom consultation

  • Review and discussion of the Vāstu-informed concept

  • Recommendations for progressing the design

Best for: Those planning a new home who want Vāstu to inform the design from the very beginning.

Once your enquiry is received, we’ll be in touch to discuss your site, project and next steps.

Please note: Udaya is a conceptual Vāstu design service. It is not a complete architectural/building design service and does not include detailed design, consultant coordination, development applications, building approval or construction documentation. If you wish to continue developing the concept, Udaya can become the foundation for a separate full design engagement.

Vāstu Purusha Mandala

The Vāstu Purusha Mandala is a geometric planning framework traditionally used to organise spaces in relation to direction, proportion, movement, and balance. It divides a site or floor plan into a grid, with each area associated with different qualities and functions.

Rather than viewing a home as a collection of rooms, the Mandala considers how the entire space works together as an interconnected whole — helping guide the relationship between built form, openness, circulation, and the experience of moving through a space.
